The story begins 35 Years ago in Coober Pedy.

John (the proprietor) began as a miner and learned the whole process of opal cutting, polishing + jewellery making, finally establishing the opal Factory in Coober Pedy. After many years in Coober Pedy he then bought his Expertise to into the heart of Adelaide. John speaks fluent Czech, Polish & Yugoslav. Mike, Johns son is now an integral part of the business and will continue the family tradition through the next generations. Mike's focus is on the administration of the business but can often be found helping the sales team as he enjoys the satisfaction of helping our customers find the right piece for them. Mike also speaks fluent Czech.

Steven, our head jeweller began his career at the OPAL & GEM FACTORY when he was just 14 years old, working part time during the school holidays. 1 Year later, he started his apprenticeship under John and is now one of Australia's best Opal Jewellers. Steven has been with us for 14 years now and makes true masterpieces at extremely good prices.

Andrew, John's brother in law has been with us for over 13 years and has valuable knowledge in all areas of opal stones + jewellery selection. Andrew is the store manager and can assist you with any and all of your needs.

Rebecca also completed her apprenticeship with the OPAL & GEM FACTORY and has been with us for 6 years. Rebecca brings the 'woman's touch' to our jewellery manufacturing making very beautiful pieces. In addition Rebecca also speaks fluent German.

Tim is another young apprentice that has stayed with us to become a very skilled jeweller. Tim has been with us for 5 years and has excellent technical knowledge of gem stones and precious metals. Tim understands Italian but be patient with him when he tries to speak it :)

Jenny is our head sales assistant and also possesses sound knowledge of jewellery and mining in general. Jenny has a great fashion sense and can advise you on what jewellery suits you best and can help you pick out the perfect piece for any occassion. Jenny has been with us for 5 years and can speak fluent Greek.
